[author photo] Jordan Ellenberg was born in 1971 and grew up in Potomac, Maryland. While in high school, he won two gold medals in the International Math Olympiad, one in Cuba and one in West Germany. He received undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from Harvard, and an M.A. in fiction from Johns Hopkins. He is now Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Princeton University; his research interests are number theory and arithmetic algebraic geometry. His column, Do the Math, appears regularly in Slate. He lives in Princeton with his wife, Tanya Schlam.

The Grasshopper King is his first novel.
