sha'atnez
Abraham Mezrich

i

Do not wear sha'atnez: wool and linen together. The verse means, in one garment.

This is the source for the prohibition.

Rashi says: we do not know why. Rashi says, God has never told us why. So an act of faith.

ii

The nations of the world can say, It makes no sense to keep this Law. They can tempt us in this way. The nations of the world can say, What is the reason?

That is how they can tempt us.

The Accuser can say, If there is no reason that you can see for this Law, depart from it.

Temptation comes in the mind.

iii

Abraham Mezrich is the author of Child of a Voice,
a series of poetic meditations on Jewish religious themes.
